Weekly Recap

Texturing my lopoly guns went well, I'd say.

One crashout later, and I think I'm somewhat better off mentally as well. I spent a lot of the time this past week just working on the vibe. Cultivating a bit more Trenchbroom skills, texturing the guns so they're not just white blobs, adding some basic environmental textures from some PSX assetpacks I bought, simple stuff.

What I've truly realized this week I think is just how MUCH there is. Yeah, I know that's what every indie dev ever says, but there really just is so many new skills I need to fight with to be able to better understand what I'm doing.

It's not necessarially tedious. The issue is that the parts that I struggle with I know could be done easier, but those routes I'm struggling even more with learning. The big one here is animation within Blender.

See, from what I can tell, how Godot likes to import animations from Blender is through Actions. The issue is I couldn't get the Actions I was working with to share parts nicely. Need to have the bolt animated in both the fireCycle and lastShot animation? It'd only remain assigned to the other. My googling when I was tired found me nothing.

So, between not having any animations and just redoing them in Godot, I chose to just do them in Godot. But if I could do them in Blender, it'd be so much faster. But then there's still the issue of hand animations. Sure, I don't have hands yet, but I have spheres I can use as placeholders. So I did. But if I want to animate them, then I need to animate the hand markers as well. This would be easier with the animations prebaked, I believe, but it's honestly probably just annoying either way -- but if I want to have my characters arms not just be attached to the viewmodel itself, which is how a lot of the tutorials I've seen so far seem to just do it, I have to probably drive it via IK somehow through this.

It's just so much.

Add on a lot of complicated emotions outside of gamedev causing problems for me in my personal life, and it really just is all so much.

But hey, I've added the CBJ-MS. IMFDB says the last game it was in was H3VR and GFL, which, love them as I do, I don't think count; before that, its last game was from 2014. This officially means I've got cool niche guns, right?

Anyways, I uploaded some gameplay footage to YouTube in hopes of building some amount of traction.

I've also finally made a Discord Server, if you're somehow already brainrotted over my projects.

FRAG General Discord

Poking at either of them really helps. That's all for this week. Have a great day.
